Another retraction of previous toilet paper tube comments
I guess I never let my mind open up to the possibility of the toilet paper tube. See this lovely idea from Claire Robertson of Loobylu where she uses biodegradable tubes as pots to start seeds. I think we’ll have to adopt this method for our seed starting efforts this spring.

Go ahead you can eat it… and it’s gluten free!
Yahoo. I spend most of my days telling my daughter that she shouldn’t eat XYZ. The latest obsession is to eat the ends off of all of her crayons or “colahs” as she calls them. Although I bought washable, non-toxic crayons, I still can’t believe that it’s ok to EAT crayons. Not to mention because they are washable, the minute she puts them in her mouth, they run down out and liquefy, which as you can imagine reenacts some very scary scenes from horror movies or creep dreams.
She might be a little young for play dough and yes I know I can make my own, but how cool is it that there is company out there making all natural eco friendly play dough for kids…. AND they have a gluten free product to, which is great for all of us Celiacs. Oh if I didn’t mention it before, I’m a Celiac and we are assuming as of yet that our child is.

Really proud of myself
I’m really proud of our composting efforts. A few weeks ago I went and picked up a compost bin at our local DPW, which they offer at a nice discount. You may ask why the need to buy a compost bin? Why not just throw it into a pile near the side of your house?
Well we live in a pretty urban area and have some varmint that tend to roam our trash area for goodies. My husband has become a convert too and happily (or so he seems or as anyone can be when handling waste) takes out the compost when he takes out the trash and recycling. We picked up a nice countertop container to store the compost until it’s time to take it out and we’ll hopefully be enjoying some nice compost on our garden next year.
I haven’t quite yet figured out if I’ll need to stop adding compost to the bin while it all decomposes so that I don’t have broccoli undecomposed lying around in my garden with my nice compost, but I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.
