Spats are back

That’s right folks Spats are back.  I’m not sure I could pull of Spats but it seems like they are back and I think Mazie could pull off the kids spats by Our Yellow House shown bottom left.  Here are some lovely knit Spats I found on Esty, listed clockwise below in case you feel the need to adorn yourself with some spats.

Spats you say? What are they? A shoe accessory worn in the late 19th and early 20th century. The spat is worn over the shoe but under the pant leg. Historically, spats were also worn by women, under a long dress.

Sometimes love can come so easily….

Necklush

Etsy never ceases to stop providing lovely things over which I can fawn.  Check out these AMAZING scarves by Necklush .

I am always wearing scarves and am never really warm unless my neck is warm.  If anyone, Robbie, wants to buy me one of these as a gift, I would be delighted and the gift giver might score some points.

These are really neat. You should get one and give one.

I’ve recently come across this new spin on Kokeshi dolls, which are traditional friendship dolls given to family and friends accompanied by well wishes.  The new spin on an old tradition are called Momiji friendship dolls.  Seems that there is also an interesting sub-culture around these little cuties, which I’ve not yet quite figured out.

Each doll has a personality assigned to it and a sentiment for the recipient.  For instance “Twinkle” shown here on the right is accompanied by “Your heart has a happy twinkle that keeps me always cosy.” Twinkle will be in my mom’s Christmas Stocking this year.  You can also include your own personal note in a secret compartment on the bottom of each doll.

I’m always looking for new and interesting little trinkets to give my friends and family.  Both Mazie and my mom will be getting these and you never know, one of you just might end up with one too.

All things acorn

What his the deal with my recent obsession with all things acorn? Not sure but I seem to be drawn to anything acorn shaped. Perhaps it might be that Mazie is fascinated by these little objects from the sky or that Fall is in the air and they are everywhere. Regardless, I’m not sure what the deal is and I don’t care. I love acorns. Check out some of my latest acorn-related finds.

Etsy Anyone?

The blogosphere is full of posts and links to fabulous finds on Etsy but I’m obsessed with the items on Etsy as well as the concept and I think there are still some friends of Ma’May’s who have not seen the Etsy light yet. I’m also highly invested in continuing the traditions of women who came before me through “handy crafts”. Handmade is so special and Etsy is helping to bring handmade to a new level.

In case you’re new to the world or have been under a rock oblivious to cool things, Etsy is “an online marketplace for buying & selling all things handmade.” Now we’re not talking handmade things that look like they came from some horrible home economics class. There are no pen cups made out of old toilet paper rolls. There is some AMAZING stuff on this website. It’s like walking down the trendiest NYC boutique avenue times 1000 and cheaper and better. It’s also a really interesting combination of an online e-commerce marketplace and a social network or online community.

There are some really cool features like their Alchemy section where you as a shopper could post that you’d like to purchase something for a mom who likes eco friendly design, is in love with pink, and you’d like to spend $50. Vendors/crafters/artists could then bid on your post with ideas from their repertoire. There are also some really innovative ways to shop like their color selection tool, which will pull up all items on Etsy that are your chosen color. Seriously, it’s cool.

Check out the video on their About page to learn more and spend some time on the site.I guarantee you’ll find something to your liking.
